Operational Director

Hasfarm Holdings is one of the largest cut flower growers in Asia. They have different production locations in several countries. Besides cut flowers they also produce pot plants. The company has a long history of more than 30 years and is well established in the horticultural world. Kunming Hasfarm is the Chinese based company and besides cut flowers also grows cuttings and propagation materials in its Young Plants division for sale to growers throughout the world.


Operational Director


Job information

For the location in Yunnan China the organization is looking for an Operational Director. This is a new position. The candidate will take over part of the General Managers responsibilities and report directly to the GM. He/she will manage the cut flower production and cuttings propagation activities. The cut flower production takes place at three locations and covers an area of 40 hectares employing more than 300 people. It will be the responsibility of the OD to optimize the operational process and reduce production costs wherever possible.

Cut flowers and cuttings production both have their own Managing Directors and report directly to the OP. Current turnover for which candidate is responsible is around $20,000,000/year. Both companies collectively employ over 650 employees. Sales, HR and Administration don’t fall under the responsibility of the Operational Director.


Key Responsibilities

  • Increase yield, efficiency and general operational excellence by improving the production processes
  • Managing the cut flowers and cuttings propagation activities
  • Optimize the operational process and reduce costs wherever possible
  • Responsible for P&L results of both organizations
  • Design and implement business operations strategies, plans, and procedures
  • Establish policies that promote company vision and culture
  • Set performance and growth targets
  • Assist accounts department with financial projections and budgeting
  • Collaborate with the managing director on long-term plans for company growth
  • Act as a mentor to all employees
  • Motivate staff to meet organizational targets - Identify opportunities to make improvements in terms of efficiency
  • Delegate authority to ensure the company has a robust and experienced team leaders
  • Sales, HR and Administration don’t fall under the responsibility of the Operational Director


Profile candidate

  • Relevant Bachelor degree and ideally a MBA (or equivalent management experience)
  • International cultivation experience as well high-tech growing as basic cultivation
  • Extensive experience of working at a senior level
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities in English
  • Team leader - able to communicate, convince and work effectively in a team 
  • Highly organized, motivated and hands-on mentality
  • Experience in managing large groups of employees/teams
  • Positive-minded connector with coaching qualities
  • Balanced personality with excellent professional and social skills

The offer

Market salary depending on the candidate's qualities in the range of $150,000 to $200,000 net/year. Assistance in finding a rental property and contribution towards the rental cost of the property. Reimbursement for the cost of obtaining Chinese driving license.
